PARK SLOPE LANDMARKED TOWNHOUSE

Located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, this Landmarked Renaissance Revival brownstone required a thoughtful intervention to introduce modern functionality while preserving its ornate historic character. The primary design challenge necessitated a delicate balance between retaining turn-of-the-century architectural details and accommodating a contemporary domestic program. A surgical reconfiguration of the entry sequence and a modest rear-yard addition provided the necessary spatial flexibility to integrate a new powder room and a large kitchen, all without compromising the original historic fabric.

The resulting architecture establishes a deliberate visual dialogue between historic and contemporary sensibilities. The intervention features a custom built-in daybed that merges replicated traditional trimwork with modern storage, alongside a sleek kitchen volume that seamlessly inserts into the preserved dining room. Custom floor-to-ceiling steel and glass doors connect the interior to a newly constructed rear deck, while reconfigured bathrooms utilize strong geometries softened by varied finishes. The completed home operates as a carefully curated intersection of minimal and ornate, providing a highly specific environment grounded in its historic Brooklyn context.
