Situated on a tree-lined street in East Hampton, this historic cottage required a comprehensive interior intervention to accommodate frequent, large-scale entertaining while preserving the intimacy of a private retreat. Eschewing traditional regional vernacular, the gut renovation reconfigures the ground floor as a series of functional thresholds. Utility and service volumes are aggregated to frame the primary living areas, establishing a free-form circulation that implies program rather than rigidly enforcing it. An oversized kitchen and dining volume anchors the core, offset by scaled-down nooks distributed throughout the plan.

Arched geometries serve as a recurring architectural motif across varying scales, from overarching room proportions to custom millwork details. These forms are set against a layered, tactile palette of natural tones and textures, bringing structural order and lightness to the interior. The upper level is conceived with hospitality-grade intentionality, integrating private guest accommodations, carefully proportioned storage, and dedicated workspaces. The resulting architecture effortlessly balances the spatial demands of hosting with quiet moments of solitude, offering a highly calibrated environment for modern domesticity.
