MID-CITY HOUSE ADDITION & RENOVATION

Los Angeles, CA

A nondescript ranch-style house in Mid-City Los Angeles becomes something quietly remarkable through a gut renovation and rear yard addition guided by clarity, light, and landscape. The existing home’s compartmentalized layout gave way to a new organization that separates private and public zones with intention — creating intuitive flow while accommodating the layered demands of modern domestic life: working from home, entertaining, hosting guests. The material palette and design sensibility draw from the Southern California chaparral, grounding the interiors in the tawny, textured character of the regional landscape. A free-flowing kitchen and dining area opens to the rear yard at one end and frames views of the Hollywood Hills at the other, threading the outdoors through the heart of the home. The primary bathroom is conceived as a spa retreat — a moment of calm and indulgence within the everyday. Throughout, proportions were calibrated against the clients’ real needs and a sharp eye on value, producing a home that feels generous without excess.
